The Effect of Traction Position in Cervical Traction Therapy Based on Dynamic Simulation Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study describes the development of a cervical traction therapy simulation model that evaluates two types of the traction positions, namely the sitting position and the inclined position. An anatomically correct human skeleton model and two mechanical traction device models were constructed in simulations using a physics engine. The anterior and posterior intervertebral separations were measured at both positions with a series of traction forces (60N to 200N) and traction angles (10 ̊ to 40 ̊). The result suggested that the sitting position caused the subject to lean forward and as a result led to excessive anterior compression when traction angle is over 20 degrees. The inclined position creates greater intervertebral separations on both the anterior and posterior sides than the sitting position. This suggests that the inclined position may be more effective in increasing intervertebral separation than the sitting position.

This study aims to validate the accuracy of a cervical traction therapy simulation model by comparing the intervertebral separations of six asymptomatic male adults when traction was applied to their cervical spines. The subjects were tested on two mechanical traction devices, representing the inclined and sitting positions. A total of 55 radiographic images of their cervical spines were taken ...
متن کاملThe efficacy of a home-mechanical traction unit for patients with mild to moderate cervical osteoarthrosis: A pilot study
Background: Traction has been suggested to be an effective treatment for symptoms of neck disorder in patients with no contraindications. However, according to previous researches, the effectiveness of traction is controversial, particularly compared to other conservative treatments. This trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of sustained traction, using an over-the-door home cervical trac...
متن کاملEffects of intermittent traction in patients with cervical osteoarthritis
Abstract Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disease occuring after middle age. Because of the high mobility of the neck, OA is common in the cervical spine. The purpose of this study was to determine and compare the effects of intermittent traction on patients with mild and moderate cervical OA. Therefore, 32 patients with cervical OA were recruited. Methods: Aclinic...

Background & Aim: Osteoarthritis is the most common joint disease among all the joints. It is one of the major agents of physical disabilities. Degenerative changes of the joints begin from second decade of life. Ninety percent of people have degenerative changes at 40 years of age in weight bearing joints. Osteoarthritis is common in spinal joints especially cervical spine, because of its ...
متن کاملEffect of intermittent, supine cervical traction on the myoelectric activity of the upper trapezius muscle in subjects with neck pain.
This study was undertaken to compare the myoelectric activity of the upper trapezius muscle before, during, and after intermittent, supine cervical traction. Twelve people with diagnosed disease or injury of the cervical spine served as subjects. Electromyographic recordings were taken from the upper trapezius muscle with bipolar surface electrodes. The subjects were treated with 20 minutes of ...
